KYIV — Disturbing images have emerged of Ukrainian soldiers using dead chickens instead of artillery shells amid ongoing shortages of materiel in the war against Russia.
“This is a new low,” said Ukraine war observer Sashsa Petrov. “The only thing achieved by firing chickens out of a howitzer is the bloody mess that is spread across the field of battle.”
The United States and Europe have been struggling to supply Ukraine with a steady supply of ammunition and weapons as the war against Russia enters its third year.
“If this isn’t a sign of Ukraine’s demise I don’t know what is,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov with a grin during a press conference.
The US military was asked comment on this newly emerged images but only said “chickens are better than nothing”.
There was on positive aspect of the grim news.
“Ukraine’s use of chickens as artillery shells kills two birds with one stone, as they say,” said Dr. Johann Grouse from Germany’s Health Department. “With the avian flu around, you have to kill these chickens some how.”
